2025 Easter appeal to help the Mohoko GMC Church in Rwanda
In Rwanda, the government inspects churches, and if they do not meet standards, the buildings can be closed. The Mid-Texas Conference is partnering with these churches in significant ways, and I’d like for First Methodist to be a part.
A friend and colleague, Rev. Matt Pennington, a Presiding Elder who lives in Gozales, Texas, recently visited Rwanda and states the following:
“The Mohoko GMC Church is a church that Rev. Marc Baliyanga, Rwanda GMC Conference Superintendent, identifies as one of their most strategic churches to reopen. This church will be able to serve multiple parishes for worship while we work to get them open. More than 500 people regularly worship at this Church. To get them reopened and invest in the future, they will need to invest in government-required parking, a road leading into the church, two restrooms and they have the opportunity (and need) to purchase a house that basically touches the church’s property. They have land to build a school right next to the church (a huge need in the community), and they have done a tremendous job investing in getting reopened. I believe with a strong push this could be one of the most vibrant and growing churches in the area.”
The goal is to raise $15,000 to purchase the house next door and make repairs. (You can see the house and the church in the video above.) To help the Mohoko GMC Church fulfill their needs and beyond, please think about making a special Easter Offering gift. This year, we have the chance to assist Rwandan Methodists in carrying out our duty to “Save Souls!” Giving is as easy as clicking here, which will take you to the Vanco website. Type Easter Offering in the “please specify” box. As always, donations can be made in person at the Church Office or by placing your donation in the offering plate on Sunday morning.
