Wesley Nurse Program

The Wesley Nurse program spans more than 80 sites throughout South Texas and is Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc.'s largest geographic outreach program. The professional practice of the Wesley Nurse is not limited to the physical dimension of medical needs; rather, it includes a mind, body and spirit holistic approach. A key component Wesley Nurses undertake in their communities is providing health education, health promotion and facilitation of resources. We assist individuals and communities in achieving improved health and wellness through self-empowerment and access to healthcare resource information.

While the Wesley Nurse program is a component of Methodist Healthcare Ministries' ecumenical outreach and located within churches, it does not teach a set of denominational beliefs. All Wesley Nurse programs are free, and all members of the community are welcome. Programs are offered to groups or on an individual basis.

Diapers are needed for My Healthy Child parenting program. Our greatest need is size 3, 4, and 6 diapers. Any diapers, gift cards or monetary donations to help purchase can be dropped off in the main church office. Please indicate that these are for the Wesley Nurse when leaving them in the office.

First Methodist will co-host Parents & Pastries with Goliad on April 9th and 10th from 7:00 am-8:00 am. We will be taking this opportunity as the parents have breakfast with the kids before school to allow them to see the Lighthouse and hear about future activities planned for the Lighthouse. Anyone wishing to volunteer to help, please contact Lesa at 325-215-4835.

We will be doing Monday Munchies with Goliad after school 4/29, 5/6, 5/13, & 5/20. Students and parents are invited to learn how to make healthy kid friendly snacks. Our hope is to have representatives of La Esperanza, Tom Green County Library, and Child Advocacy center present to give out information to parents about upcoming events and activities we are planning for the Lighthouse. Would love to have some volunteers for these afternoons. Please contact Lesa or Sherrie Walker.

Lesa is working with La Esperanza to get the mobile clinic to start coming out to the Lighthouse on a regular basis. This is another opportunity to meet the parents and let them know what great opportunities are coming to the Lighthouse.
